Sort beyond colour
Separate by weight too: jeans and towels grind delicate kurtas in the same drum. Zips closed, buttons open, everything printed turned inside-out.
Cold water, less detergent
Cold washes clean normal daily dirt perfectly well, protect colour and elastic, and cut electricity use. Excess detergent does not clean more — it stiffens fabric and traps odour.
The dryer and the dhoop
Direct harsh sunlight fades darks in weeks. Dry darks inside-out or in shade; give whites the direct sun they love. Line-drying beats machine drying for lifespan, full stop.
Storage details
Knits folded (hangers stretch shoulders), suits on shaped hangers, and everything fully dry before the cupboard. In monsoon months, silica pouches prevent must and mildew.
