Fabric Guide: Lawn vs Cotton vs Linen — What to Wear and When

Half of clothing comfort is picking the right fabric for the season. These three get confused constantly, but they behave very differently on your body.

Lawn: the summer specialist

Finely woven, lightweight cotton — crisp, breathable, and ideal from April to September. Quality lawn softens with washing; poor lawn turns transparent and limp within a season.

Cotton: the all-rounder

Heavier weaves work three seasons. It absorbs sweat well, irons crisply and survives rough washing. The trade-off: it wrinkles and takes longer to dry in humidity.

Linen: premium with rules

The most breathable of the three and the best-looking drape — but it creases the moment you sit down. Buy linen-cotton blends for daily wear; save pure linen for occasions where slight wrinkles read as style.

Quick decision rule

Peak summer: lawn. Transitional months and daily wear: cotton. Style-forward, low-effort days: linen blend.
